If the voters approve a one half of one percent City limited term general sales tax increase, shall the additional revenues be used primarily for the purpose of repairing and maintaining the City's roadways?
Measure F-12 does not increase taxes. Rather, Measure F-12 asks voters whether they believe the additional sales tax revenues, if Measure E-12 is approved, should be used primarily for the purposeofrepairingandmaintainingtheCity'sroadways. Ifamajorityofthevotersvote"yes," on this measure, it will be an indication to the City Council of how voters believe the revenues should be spent. However, because it is an advisory measure, it is not controlling on the actual use of the sales tax proceeds.

Arguments For Measure F-12 |
On this ballot is a proposed temporary sales tax measure that would generate a badly-needed supplemental source of revenue for the City that the State cannot take away. Everyone who drives through Paso Robles knows that our streets are in a deteriorated condition because of severe budget cuts over the last several years. Gasoline tax money of over $400,000 annually was taken away by the State; City income also dropped $7 million. The City has been able to balance its budget by eliminating 35% of City jobs, freezing pay and renegotiating pensions, but had to reduce its road repair program to a bare-bones level.
A reasonable program of road repair and maintenance costs over $3 million per year, which is approximately how much the sales tax proposal would generate each year for 12 years. We believe citizens think that fixing city streets is the highest priority for the use of the additional revenues. Voting "yes" on this measure would confirm that belief. s/ Victor Popp, Hotelier s/ Larry Werner, Principal / Engineering Firm s/ Joel Peterson, Wine Industry Professional s/ Al Garcia, Chairman Planning Commission s/ Duane Picanco, Mayor
