Jose Preciado + a voice for ratepayers. Jose is a 31-year resident of San Diego's South Bay, he grew up in the Nestor/Otay Mesa community and lives in West Chula Vista since 2006. Jose's leadership on behalf of South County residents has focused on key issues including K-12 education, higher education, high skilled jobs and vocational training, access to healthcare, affordable housing, improved public safety/community relations, comprehensive immigration reform and always improving our general quality of life in the region. In November 2008, Jose has elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors for the South Bay Irrigation District, Division #3. In 1977, the South Bay Irrigation District and the City of National City formed a joint powers authority to operate the region's water resources. The Sweetwater Authority serves over 185,000 residents in the cities of Chula Vista, National City and the unincorporated areas of Bonita and Lincoln Acres. Jose is a product of the San Diego County public school system having attended local schools including: Nestor Elementary School, Southwest Jr. High School and Southwest High School. He graduated from San Diego State with a Bachelors Degree in Latin American Studies and Spanish for the Single Subject Teaching Credential. Jose has completed graduate coursework in Public Administration, Educational Research and Latin American Studies. In his fourteenth year at SDSU, Jose serves as Director of Academic Engagement Programs providing leadership and administrative direction for the Faculty-Student Mentoring Program, the Undergraduate Research Program, the Service Learning and Civic Engagement Program, the DUS Internship Program, and the Common Experience. Jose previously served as Director of College Readiness Programs. His main duties involved establishing academic partnerships between departments, schools, and districts to support student achievement. Jose's work with the County Office of Education included supporting the Foster Youth Services college opportunity program, AVID, the English Language Learners Unit and the promotion of Parent Involvement Programs. Jose is an elected member of the University Senate and serves on the executive committee. Jose has served on the Diversity, Equity and Outreach Committee, the Academic Resources Committee and the Campus fee Advisory Committee. Jose also serves as a steward for his union brothers and sisters with Academic Professionals of California. This union represents all Unit 4 Academic Support employees.
