La Mesa has changed in many ways since I attended Murray Manor Elementary in the 1950's. As housing, transportation and commercial development reshape our city, La Mesa must continue to offer residents quality of life for every stage of life. I will bring: MANAGEMENT As Communication and Fine Arts Dean (2000-2005) and as a member of the Grossmont-Cuyamaca College District Citizen's Bond Oversight Committee (2007-2009), I have managed millions of dollars in public funds. As owner of O'Dunn Fine Art in La Mesa Village (2009-now) I have added private sector experience. Opening an upmarket retail store in a recession, in our Village, has been a fast ramp to the economic realities of our city. My goal for our city is to maximize revenue sources and promote fair, effective use of scarce tax dollars for city services our residents need and expect. Bankruptcy is not an option for La Mesa! REVENUES In these times of reduced fiscal resources and decreased state-level support, it is vital that cities think proactively. As Grants Director for the Grossmont-Cuyamaca College District I brought in new sources of revenue from state, federal and international agencies to that public institution. I will promote sound, innovative revenue-producing initiatives to support La Mesa's financial stability. VISION As SDSU Department of Geological Sciences Alumnus of the Year 2000, and Grossmont College Innovator of the Year 2005, I am a leader who brings people together in a collegial way for mutual benefit. More recently, I have brought those skills to the Board of the La Mesa Village Merchants Association, and as Vice Chair of the La Mesa Village PBID Formation Committee. La Mesa will be accommodating new residents, creating smart growth opportunities, and promoting the attractive, healthy, walkable, accessible aspects of our town. My focus is to maintain the safety and character of our La Mesa neighborhoods, while controlling traffic, and adding and maintaining amenities for all age groups. REGIONAL COOPERATION Resources are best managed when other agencies and jurisdictions that deliver services within La Mesa city boundaries, including public safety, land use, water, transportation, health care, education, utilities, and parks have a healthy working relationship with our city. I support strong ties with overlapping agencies to maximize benefits and minimize costs for basic services and quality of life for all La Mesans.
