Taking business to the districtBy Jennifer MartinezCandidate for Board Member; Alpine Union School District | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I believe children come first and my business knowledge will be an asset to the school district. As a business owner, I understand when times are tough cuts have to be made. Cuts don't necessarily mean teachers (this is always the first thought). However, as a mother of three, two of whom are still in the district, I see poor management. It is very simple, know your town and you will know how to appropriately spend money. I believe I have that asset. I have worked in Alpine for over 20 years, yet lived here for only 10. All my kids have been in the school district. I have volunteered my time as a teacher helper, and art docent. I have also volunteered my time outside the district. I have had complaints and compliments within the school district, and each one has been known to the Superintendent. My goal is to make sure our kids are getting what they need and bring that outside influence into the "world" of education. How will I do this? First, I will continue to visit schools to see what is going on. Not only my children's school, but the others as well. The only way to be knowledgeable about what is going on is to be involved, and that is me. Second, I will not allow irresponsible spending. When the people are hurting, enough as it is, they don't want to see tax dollars raised because the schools want to be on the high end of technology. Many of us survived with books and still are aware of how to use technology. Not that I am against technology, but I believe it should be used with care. In the end, I am 100% for the children and my experience can only help the Alpine Union School Board. |
