I ran for the Board of Directors of LCWD in 2008 because I wanted the acquisition of the Lompico Headwaters, and I thought my expertise as a Civil Engineer would be useful to the District. I had no idea that the District was in such a bad state. The disrepair of the infrastructure, after many years of neglect, became apparent gradually. Since mid-2010, after staff changes, we have been repairing and upgrading, replacing lateral pipes, repairing or replacing pressure-reducing valves, maintaining fire hydrants, cleaning and repairing tanks and wells and meters and pumps and many of the myriad parts which make up the infrastructure of a water system. As we've made those repairs, we've been better able to see what still needs to be done, and have worked on a general plan aimed at bringing the District up to a modern and professional level. Seeing the state of the infrastructure and finances, I came to the conclusion that the best way to ensure that the people of our canyon have a safe, affordable, optimal system is to become part of SLVWD. I am committed to hearing all options, will never close my mind to a viable alternative, but have not heard anything which convinces me that we can afford to do everything which needs to be done + and then maintain it professionally + on our own. I want to bring all the facts to the people of Lompico, and let us all make the decision. I am committed to bringing a merger to a vote, and I hope you'll return me to the Board so that I can continue to work with Lois Henry and Rick Harrington on that course. |
