Against all odds our campaign was successful on June 5. Now we are faced with the ultimate choice. Do we change the political culture that has been a disservice to District 8? Are we willing to change the way we have governed in the past?

We need to cap executive salaries. It is absurd we pay our top city executives more than the Governor of California. We need to cut the large number of deputy and assistant managers in the city. We need to restore public safety budgets, libraries and community centers.

Political divisions have gridlocked our government at all levels. That's why I'm running a broad-based campaign and am proud to have the endorsement of Democratic Supervisor Dave Cortese and Republican Sheriff Laurie Smith. Because together, people of good will, who keep their word and want to provide real solutions, can work together to accomplish great things.

If we surprise again, I will be an independent voice who will never use fear to drive an agenda. My door will be open, even if we have disagreed in the past.
