Smart Voter Official Statement for Dolores Marquez

Candidate for
Board Member; Alum Rock Union Elementary School District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Occupation: Governing Board Member, Alum Rock Union School District
Education and Qualifications:
Together, we have made positive changes in our school district that have provided our children the resources and skills to succeed. This academic year alone, another one of our schools was named a California Distinguished Schools. Our District test scores increased 57 points overall, the highest increase in the county. By supporting charter schools in our District, we have provided choices for our parents. We have increased parent involvement and have become a model for turning around a struggling school district.

With your support, we completely rebuilt and open a 21st century school-San Antonio Elementary-and provided every student and teacher the power of hand held technology in the classroom, giving students and their families access to exciting learning opportunities. We are now a model in the county for teaching and learning with technology. We also built a new, all-weather track and sport field at one of our middle schools, for students and families. It is my goal to repeat all this at more of our schools.

Despite these successes, we cannot rest. If you support increasing academic, increasing parent involvement and improving our schools, then vote Dolores Marquez, Alum Rock School Board.
