In their endorsement of Rose Herrera, the Mercury News said she "...has shown courage and character in standing up to the unions and the politically powerful Cortese family ... Police and fire unions, national and local labor groups are ganging up on her."

Mayor Chuck Reed says "Rose has been a leader in job creation in San José, and a strong advocate to bring skyrocketing employee costs under control, protecting services and taxpayers."

Rose secured funding for Highway 101 Tully/Capitol Yerba Buena and Capitol Expressway pedestrian/bike/lighting improvements and led the community in saving Lake Cunningham Skate Park, and maintaining services at Meadowfair Community Center.

Rose, an Air Force Veteran, is running for her final term. In addition to the Mercury News, Rose's reelection is endorsed by Mayor Reed, Vice Mayor Nguyen, Councilmember Pete Constant, San José/Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce, Silicon Valley Taxpayers' Association, Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Sierra Club, and voters who put her in first place in June.

On May 31st the Mercury News Editorial wrote "Can independent committees spending some $200,000 on despicable campaigning overwhelm a leader's good reputation and force her out of office?" Tell the independent committees NO.
