Candidate for
Trustee; San Jose Unified School District; Trustee Area 5

My husband and I have lived in this trustee area for more than 30 years. Our two boys attended Simonds, Bret Harte, Leland, and UC Berkeley. I spent nearly all of my professional career as an educator in Almaden Valley: as a science and math teacher at Bret Harte, as an Assistant Principal at Leland, and as Principal of both Castillero and Pioneer. I also served as San José Unified School District's Director of Secondary Education until retiring in 2010.

My decades of experience have left me with deep connections to the families of Trustee Area 5 + not just those in my social circle but across the diverse spectrum of our community. I know what makes our schools great, and I understand the challenges they face.

I know how important it is in these difficult times to manage our scarce resources well. I know how vital it is to attract and retain the best and brightest teachers. I also know we must demand high expectations and accountability to promote better learning and positive school climates.

Most importantly, I know our community believes in our schools.

I am humbled to be endorsed by many of our friends and neighbors, including City Councilwoman Nancy Pyle, former SJUSD Superintendents Dr. Linda Murray and Don Iglesias, and City Council candidate Robert Braunstein.
