Vision for Los AltosBy Jon BaerCandidate for Council Member; City of Los Altos | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
My Vision is to allow our city to grow and prosper while maintaining a family-friendly, community oriented, small-town feelingOne of the key questions residents ask me is about my vision for downtown Los Altos. My vision for downtown not only reflects what I believe will create a robust, vibrant business environment that serves the needs of our community, but also reflects the values that prompted so many of us to move to Los Altos (or in a few cases never leave!). Sipping coffee in an outdoor café, parents watch as their youngest plays nearby. Their older one is hanging out in the kid-friendly (and safe) game arcade. Just another lazy weekend afternoon. Mom gives Dad kid duty and she goes to her favorite store for a dress. Dad takes the two children and buys a ladder at the local hardware store. Later the entire family goes to the new supermarket and gets food (and a few treats along the way) for dinner, stopping to admire the new mural on the side of the building. Empty nesters walk out of their condo and head downtown for a quiet dinner at their favorite restaurant. A single thirty-something resident who lives nearby is also dining there with a date. On Monday, one parent heads to the office on First Street. Fifteen small companies share the building space. At lunch the engineering team takes a short walk to have lunch at one of the many restaurants downtown, and then get lattes on the way back to the office. Another resident stops downtown on the way home from work to pick up fresh flowers and take-out at the newest ethnic restaurant in town. On the way back to the car he stops and talks with several friends having drinks at an outdoor café. Santana Row, no, The Village at San Antonio Center, nope. Downtown Los Altos - absolutely! Warm, friendly, a place to catch up with neighbors and friends. More retail stores, more restaurant choices that fit our needs. Two stories heights on Main and State Streets, three-story high development on the perimeter. Keeping the charm, the character while changing to meet the needs of residents and visitors. Still the gem of the Peninsula. |
