BARBARA JAMES-DEW BIOGRAPHY

Barbara is an educator for the Victor Elementary Scool District. Her longevity in the Victor Valley spans over thirty years in addition to living and traveling throughout the United States and parts of Europe. Barbara's military family background as well as her profession affords her to understand, to know and to appreciate the many cultures of our society.

These influences have cultivated her passion for history and as a result, she established Old Families, an African-American and Hispanic Pioneer Exibit that was featured in the Victor Valley Museum. Her advocacy extends beyond her classroom. Barbara has been instrumental in getting scholarships for young adults who attend Victor Vally College plus finding the selection place of the County SELPA Building in Apple Valley. The admiration that she has for the Victor Valley dates back to when she was the first African-American to be crowned Miss Victorville in 1967.

Barbara is the recipient of many awards and recognition for her civic and professional contributions. San Bernardino County Housing Commission, San Bernardino County Inland Empire Peace Officer Association, California Teachers Association, City of Victorville, United States Senator Barbara Boxer, United States Senator Diane Feinstein, CA State Senator Bill Leonard and CA State Senator Ruben Ayala.
