Why I'm running for Public Office

By Shawn L. Hubbard

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Victorville

This information is provided by the candidate
An established history of showing honesty, integrity and transparency in both my personal and professional life.
I have been married for nearly 14 years to my wife April, and we have three children. Back in 2001, seeking a higher standard of living, I moved to the high desert to take advantage of what it offered. Less crowded schools, more affordable home prices and friendlier communities appealed to my wife and I. We both desired a better quality of life for our children and the kind of community ties only a smaller city can provide. But as I looked around at my neighborhood, I saw it in decline. It was the little things at first. Dirty streets, graffiti, garbage dumped in empty fields and seeing these things linger and not being cleaned up. As I looked deeper, I became aware of our dire financial condition and all the dirty little secrets contained in the recent Grand Jury investigation of our city.

I'm running because I possess the personality traits to do the job. I have demonstrated courage throughout my life. For example, as a young sergeant at a local college, my observations and investigation led to the arrest and termination of several officers for their involvement in a theft ring. Many officers would have wilted under much less pressure, but I stood strong and did the right thing, despite threats to myself and vandalism to my vehicle.

What we need are new faces on the city council, independent candidates who are not connected to the establishment. I am that candidate and ask for your vote.
