The following is the candidate's statement in the Voter's Guide: NAME: GREG GILBERT AGE: 65 OCCUPATION: Professor Emeritus, Copper Mountain College CANDIDACY: Board of Trustees, Copper Mountain College STATEMENT: My service will center on helping the college fulfill its mission: ". . . to provide access to educational opportunities for diverse desert communities through a comprehensive curriculum and a passion for the success of every individual student." I will be a persistent advocate for student success, student access, a comprehensive curriculum, faculty/staff designed outcomes and measures, a cyclical and fully integrated budgeting system, and expansion of the college's role in the cultural and economic life of the Morongo Basin. EXPERIENCE: Teacher. Founding parent of CMC's Academic Senate with multiple terms as president and vice-president. Founder and faculty advisor for CMC's literary magazine, "Howl," and for CMC's scholarly journal, "The Copper Penny." Chaired Cultural Events. Officer of the CMC Foundation, now an honorary life-time member. Additional Experience: President MUSD BOE. Member JTNP Board. Officer of the Academic Senate for California Community Colleges; statewide Curriculum Chair; founder of annual statewide Accreditation Institute. CLOSING THOUGHT: As an educator, parent, grandparent, and husband of a teacher, I know the importance of quality education. I offer my experience and my belief that an educated populace is central to the success of our democratic society. |
