I have lived in Santa Maria over 50 years. I attended local grade, jr high, high school, and Allan Hancock College. My husband and I have raised 7 children and we have 11 grandchildren being raised in Santa Maria. I care deeply about the future of our community. I spent 20 years as Director of Programs for Domestic Violence Solutions. Building programs and services for families impacted by family violence. I have been Supervior of the District Attorney's Office Victim Witness Program for the last six years. In addtion to my work history I have a long history of volunteer service to our community. I am a former Recreation and Parks Commissioner. I sit on the Board of Directors for Santa Maria Valley Youth & Family Center, Good Samaritan Shelter, Conflict Solutions Center, and P.L.A.Y. I have been active with many community groups; I am a current member of Altursa Golden Valley, a former member of Altrusa of the Central Coast, board member of Altrusa of the Central Coast Foundation. I chaired the North County Women's Political Committee and theFamily Violence Prevention and Intervention Partnership. I was a founding member of Marian Medical Center's People for Non Violence Committee, and a founding member of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates. I have been honored by: The Business & Professional Women- Woman of the year. The Santa Maria Valley Women's Network + Woman of Excellence Award Building Bridges to Peaceful Families + Family Peace Award Central Coast Chapter of NOW - Women's Equality Day Award When my children were in school I particiapted with PTA, spent countless hours volunteering in their schools and as team mom for soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and dance teams. My work experience in the non-profit and goverment areanas, as well as my vast array of volunteer and community service work give me the back ground and experience to help move our community forward. |
