By Michael Darcy Townsend

Candidate for Board Member; Lompoc Unified School District

I am running to support the community in which I live. I feel we have too many people complaining about the issues. Instead I am stepping forward to help resolve the issues.
  • Preserve sciences higher math and arts
  • To raise standards to prepare students for college and success in life
  • Explore health care options for the staff that are affordable. Can we release funds that would be paid for a individual health cost to the individual for a private insurance if they request that option
  • Improve the English second language classes. For the rest of the classes supply supplement books for the student of foreign to help with the subject taught over all immersion is the best method. (As a student aid in high school for English second language I saw most of the students coming from a foreign country excel under our program. While being immersed into an English classroom environment. Note: A similar method is practiced by most countries with advanced systems. ) I feel we also are missing out on not having enough foreign language classes. A Varity of foreign languages should be introduced to the students. It is a big world. However we are a English speaking country and to succeed one needs a good grasp of english
  • Preserve the budget and see our way out of the financial difficulties we are in now and mitigate these issues in the future
  • To bring California back to one of the best education systems as it once was
  • Mitigate damage no child left behind has done to our school system
  • Rebalance the district where all students in any school are challenge to the same higher standards (this includes supporting the teachers in their skills to maintain higher standard and to remind parents of the importance of the involvement in their children's education. Not being afraid to hold back a student not meeting standards "not the slow down the whole class"). This includes not allowing participation in extracurricular activities
