I like Lompoc. Lompoc is my home. It's where I've chosen to settle. And there's a lot to love here. Our local economy, however, is hurting. I have studied and lived what it means to build a vibrant community. I have the background, experience, and vision that can make Lompoc thrive. That's why I'm running for City Council.

I came to Lompoc after completing my Masters at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, where I studied Social Theory and Public Affairs. Before that I had earned an undergraduate degree at UCSB in Ethics and Public Policy. Together these studies gave me a solid understanding of both the complex problems we face and the practical solutions we can develop that would solve them.

Before earning my master's degree I worked at a community organization in Livermore, CA. There, I reached out and brought together diverse constituencies to confront thorny issues--that often spanned across city, state, and federal, jurisdictions. The key to my work was being able to listen and remain open to multiple perspectives, while sticking to the facts and finding pragmatic compromises, and always fighting for what I thought was best for the community.

My passion for public service was inspired by my grandfather, who was part of the resistance against the Nazis in the Netherlands during World War Two. From him I learned that you have to step up and serve the community in whatever way you can. No excuses. Having lived in three different countries, on three different continents (I spent my childhood in Jerusalem, Israel), I have been part of many different communities. This has not only broadened my perspective, and sparked my imagination of the possible, but made me appreciate having a lovely home like Lompoc all the more.

I am proud to live in Lompoc. I am proud that when I walk down the street I get to say hello to my friends and neighbors. Lompoc faces many challenges today. That is why I want to offer my community organizing experience, my academic background, and my unique life perspective in service of this city.

I know that, together, we can build a brighter future for Lompoc. That is why I am asking for your vote on November 6th.
