Native Californian Lynn Wheat has called Elk Grove home for the past 25 years. She began her Registered Nurse career in Obstetrics in 1981, expanding her practice to the specialty of School Nursing in 1989. Earning her School Nursing Credential from California State University of Sacramento in 1993, Ms. Wheat continues to serve students and families of the general education population as well as the severely handicapped.

Ms. Wheat has a longstanding history of citizen involvement in Elk Grove. Passionate about the community she lives in, Ms Wheat was an active parent volunteer at Feickert Elementary school. She also taught Sunday school at her church for several years. Since 2002 Ms. Wheat has served on the Elk Grove Family Life Education Advisory Committee for the school district. Along with the guidance of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department and in coordination with members of her neighborhood, Ms. Wheat spearheaded her Neighborhood Watch program and citizen's patrol. The program was so successful that the Sheriff's department asked Ms. Wheat to present information to the South Sacramento County Community Action Committee. Most recently, Ms. Wheat was involved in forming Elk Grove Grasp, a citizens' group whose purpose is to unite Elk Grove residents in opposing the city's pending application before Sacramento Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) which would expand the city boundaries by 8,000 +/- acres.

Since Elk Grove became a city in 2000, Ms. Wheat has been regularly attending city council meetings as well as other regional public hearings related to land use and transportation planning. Ms. Wheat believes that citizen involvement is the key to effective local government and she has instilled this belief in her children who have spoken as young adults at numerous public hearings as well.
