Solving problems locallyI grew up in Rancho Cordova - and I'm proud of the city we've become. But we must do more to make our city even better, safer and more prosperous. I've worked make our city better as a volunteer, coach and citizen. I've served as a Scout Leader, Volunteer of the Year for Rancho Cordova 4th of July Celebration, and am leading efforts to create Rancho Cordova Athletic Association to provide more recreation opportunities. In 2010 I was elected to the Park Board, where I've fought to bring fiscal discipline and transparency to the budget; and currently I am leading efforts to oppose pay increases for board members. Now, I want to take that same commitment and hard work to the City Council. I'm not going to promise the world or claim to solve every problem, and there are many important issues, but I will focus on three significant challenges facing our community: We need more shopping and recreation opportunities; which creates local jobs and improves our quality of life. I'll work to create policies to encourage more grocery stores, restaurants, movie theaters and other family-friendly venues to locate here in Rancho Cordova. That's part of the reason why the Rancho Cordova and Sacramento Metro Chambers of Commerce are supporting my race for City Council. We must make our neighborhoods even safer. Rancho Cordova has gone from one of the highest crime rates in the region before becoming a new city, to one of the lowest crime rates today. I'll push for even stronger partnerships with neighborhood and community groups so that our efforts are focused on solving problems - before they start. I'm honored that Sheriff Scott Jones shares my commitment to safe neighborhoods and that he has endorsed me for City Council. We need more quality housing and even better schools. I went to local schools and currently coach at Cordova High School, so I've seen the improvements first hand. But there is more we can do by creating partnerships with our schools. We can increase investment in programs like DARE that make our schools safer and help students avoid problems with gangs or drugs. We can create partnerships with Schools, the City, and Park District to share recreation facilities, libraries and homework centers. And, we can bring our business community to the classroom to foster mentors and internships to help students succeed. These issues will be my main focus on the City Council. That's why I've earned the support of leaders like Mayor David Sander, Councilwoman Linda Budge, Supervisor Roberta MacGlashan and dozens of community volunteers. But even more, I would be honored to have your support and your vote for City Council. VOTEDANZL.COM |
