I consider myself conservative. I am a strong believer in the free-market system. People are amazing and can accomplish great things if given the chance. Socially, I think it is in the best interest of all to spend time volunteering, but I don't think it should be forced. I spend several hours a week in a variety of volunteer efforts, whether it is with the Boy Scouts of America or just helping another person move. I also have been involved in many service projects throughout the city. I think it's important to take an active role in the community and want to see all of members of our community feel included, regardless of their backgrounds. Blight is a terrible stigma of our city and it inhibits the business growth that we so desperately need. We are seeing people choose to spend time in surrounding cities to shop and engage in other leisure activities, simply because they prefer the environment. We need to be much more aggressive and creative in addressing blight. This will create a greater sense of security and improve the overall citizen satisfaction with our city.
