We can't spend money we don't have! But with some creative fundraising efforts, teamwork and support from the community, we can provide our children with excellence in education.
In the wake of our Nation's struggling economy, our schools have received budget cuts that require some serious rethinking of how we will operate in the future. In order to continue to provide excellence in education in our district, we need to be more creative in finding ways to bring financial support into the district. This is where my fundraising experience for the Colfax High School Chamber Choir Booster Club will benefit the district. In collaboration with many other parents who value a well rounded education, we have succeeded in raising between $30,000 and $50,000 per year for the music department at Colfax High School. This experience in planning and executing fundraising committees for the school will be a valuable asset to the Placer Hills Union School District Board in obtaining the much needed funding to continue to provide a comprehensive curriculum. Raising a family of six on a tight budget has taught me that with a little creativity and a lot of good old-fashioned frugality, we can accomplish our goals without compromising our most important values. We live in a wonderful district, where parents are supportive of our schools, get involved in helping in the classrooms and are willing to do what it takes to make our schools strong. Even in this difficult financial state, we can work together to raise a generation of critical thinkers and effective communicators, who will become healthy, responsible citizens in the future and become life-long learners.
