Fiscal StabilityBy Michael H. SimonsCandidate for Board Member; Huntington Beach Union High School District; 4 Year Full Term | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Current State budget problems and pending declining enrollment are a challenge to the District's fiscal stabilityThe continual State budget problems and demographers prediction of declining enrollment will have a detrimental effect on the HBUHSD budget. Currently our fiscal status is sound as long term conservative financial planning has resulted in adequate reserves well above the mandated 3%. The District's positive financial status enabled the District to avoid layoffs, furlough days, and program reductions that were seen in many other school districts in Orange County and in California. The District also needs to maintain sufficient reserves to maintain our facilities. We need to continue to closely monitor the State's financial condition and to continue a conservative budgeting strategy with adequate reserves. The HBUHSD can monitor it's financial requirements and priorities through a Strategic Planning process that includes parents, staff, community members and students. |
