Brian Rechsteiner 9891 Vicksburg Drive Huntington Beach, Ca. 92646 Dear Friends It has been my honor to serve as your school board member for the past 19 ½ years. During that time the Huntington Beach City School District has had many successes and challenges. I am running for reelection because the challenges will not go away due to the budget disaster created by Sacramento. I have the knowledge and dedication to lead our district through the next 4 tough years. In spite of the financial challenges we face year after year, our students are receiving an outstanding education. Test scores of our students outperform the State, County and many of our surrounding districts, thanks to our excellent employees and their continued dedication to kids. I am proud of how we have handled the budget crisis created by Sacramento and kept our district solvent. This is not to say we have not had to cut programs and positions, as we have, due to the lack of proper funding. In every financial decision I make, my goal is to keep cuts as far away from the classroom as possible; as these cuts have a direct effect on student achievement. Some of our more recent asset management achievements are; the new locker rooms at the Dwyer campus, and the installation of solar panels at five of our school locations. I was instrumental in the installation of the solar panels and they are projected to save our district a projected $2 million dollars in energy costs over the next 25 years. In 2008 we leased the Burk and Gisler sites which are currently generating income for the district. We are working with the City of Huntington Beach for the redevelopment of the LeBard site to provide a new 10 acre park for the neighborhood, with 6 new ball fields for the Sea View Little League. This will also include the development of 30 new homes. The district is in negotiations with a local church to lease the Kettler site. ( www.hbcsd.us ) Many of you know me well as I am very active in our schools and our community. I make it a priority to visit school functions and PTA meetings. Both of my children attended schools in the HBCSD and received an excellent education. Serving on the board is a way for me to give back to the community. I am a current member of the Huntington Beach Community Services Commission, having served for 11 years, and I am a past board member of the Huntington Beach Educational Foundation. I am also a past board member of the Sparkling Angel Charities, and a past member of the Orange County Transit Authority -Citizens Action Committee. I am a proud 2 time recipient of the PTA Honorary Service Award. I am also very active in my church. I retired from Exxon Mobil Corporation as a marketing manager after 35 years of service. As many of you know I am also an 8 year cancer survivor. Why vote for Brian for reelection? I have the knowledge, commitment and dedication it takes to be an effective board member. There is a lot more to being a board member than just showing up for meetings. It takes a real commitment of time to do the research to be able to make informed decisions when voting on agenda items. Because I am retired, I have the time it takes to do the job. After 19 ½ years on the board, I have the knowledge to be an effective board member. I am currently the President of our school board, and I am providing the leadership for an outstanding Board of Trustees. I would also ask you to vote for Mrs. Bridget Kaub our current board member who is also running for election. She is a qualified and dedicated board member and deserves your vote. Thank you for your support over the past 19 ½ years. If you have questions please contact me at: BrianRechsteiner@verizon.net or 714-963-7674 Sincerely yours, Brian Rechsteiner PS: I also encourage you to vote for three other School Board Members who will be on your ballot for the H.B. Union High School District: Dr. Duane Dishno -- Appointed Governing Board Member (Short Term) Dr. Michael Simons + Governing Board Member (Full Term) Susan Henry + Governing Board Member (Full Term) |
