Councilmember Nelson tooke office in 2007 and has served the city as Mayor in 2008 and 2011. Accomplishments during his tenure are:
- Taking a structural fund deficit of $6,000,000 to a surplus of $2,000,000
- Securing of $4,500,000 for the OC Bridges project to relieve congestion along the Orangethorpe corridor
- Securing $20,000,000 for the downtown
- Reducing the Caltrans audit of the Melrose underpass from $36,000,000 to $2,000,000
- Reducing wasteful spending and renogiating vendor contracts to save the city money
- Working on pension reform to decrease the city's unfunded pension liabilities
- Increasing transparency
- Reducing crime almost 30%
Councilman Nelson is a fiscal conservative and believes that economic development is is necessary to create the revenue to continue to provide the vital core services of public safety and public works. His 32 years as a self-employed business owner give him the knowledge and expertise to help Placentia achieve that goal.
