As a resident within the Fullerton Joint Union High School District boundaries for the past 12 years, I have made the decision to run for office for the Board of Trustees. The high school district is known for being one of the top educational districts in California and the United States. As a junior high public school teacher within the district's boundaries, I have been able to identify some key issues to set as priorities if elected to the Board of Trustees.

Quality of Education

Within the Fullerton Joint Union High School District there are eight schools including the two alternative, continuation schools. Some campuses have much higher student success rates than others and are considered the "better schools" within the district. My top priority as a board member is to maintain the high standards and quality of education at those schools that perform higher than others, but to increase student success rates at those schools that are not performing at the same level of the other campuses.

Educational Advances

Public education has changed enormously over the past 20 years. As a public school teacher, I have experienced such changes to the educational system. I have seen how frequently policy is tailored to affect the classroom environment. As the only candidate who is currently a public school teacher, I will be able to make sound decisions on important policies that affect both students and teachers throughout the district. It is important to have such a perspective on the board to ensure that the district is current with all positive, educational advances.

College and Career Readiness

The high school years provide opportunities to guide students toward decisions which impact their future endeavors. It is important that educational leaders and policy makers give students the ability to have experiences that will enhance the skills they seek for future careers. As a board member, I will make it a priority that students have the resources to ensure college and career exploration is accessible in a variety of fields. By doing so, students will be able to take advantage of researching fields of interest at an earlier stage in their academic careers.

Community Communication

One key responsibility of members of the Board of Trustees is to communicate with all stakeholders in the district. It is important to receive a collective input of all parties that are affected by major decisions from the board. The presence of non-active board members in the community, creates a heightened risk in decision-making beyond the district level. If elected to the board, I will continue to be visible and active in the communities I am currently involved with. I will also increase communication with all stakeholders and increase dialogues with students from all campuses.
