Sports ParkBy Brad James McGirrCandidate for Council Member; City of Rancho Santa Margarita; 2 Year Short Term | |

I fully support the development of a 23 acre sports park with appropriate retail development that will complement and support the park.Following a legal settlement with the County of Orange, Rancho Santa Margarita received 92 acres of land in Chiquita Ridge, separating our city from Coto de Caza. I envision a sports park of at least 23 acres, to be supported financially by appropriate retail development, roughly 32 acres in size. I have coached our children here in RSM for over 15 years, and I am acutely aware of the need for more sports facilities, not only for the youth, but for all of us. I envision a significant expansion of the number of soccer/football fields, baseball/softball fields, and a gymnasium to be available for all the residents of RSM. I also propose a biking/hiking trail system that will link up seamlessly with the existing O'Neil Park trail system. This would allow hikers and mountain bikers to fully circumnavigate the entire city of RSM on one uninterrupted trail system. The supporting retail development must be constructed in a manner that is consistent with the usage of the park and the open environment of the the ridge itself. I will not support a development that destroys the character of Chiquita Ridge or the natural beauty of our community. |
