Candidate for
Board Member; Anaheim Union High School District; 4 Year Full Term

Thomas "Hoagy" Holguin, has 10 years experience as a Trustee with the Anaheim Union High School District Board of Education from 2000 to 2010. During his tenure on the School Board, he fiscally managed a school construction bond renovating 8 schools and new school facilities including the state of the art Performing Arts Center at Kennedy High School. During that time, student graduation rates and test scores improved significantly, post-secondary education programs and participation greatly increased, and taxpayer funds were protected through the implementation of strong management oversight controls.

Holguin was also a former member of the North Orange County Regional Occupational Program Board of Trustees, which during his term, added significant core courses and maximized enrollment in programs. In addition, he helped institute nationally acclaimed public/private partnerships in a few select disciplines.

As a native Californian, Holguin was raised in Los Angeles and is a 30-year resident of the City of Anaheim. Passionate about the community, Holguin has not only been actively involved with the Anaheim Police Officer Honorary Association, he was the Los Angeles Police Department Citizen of the Year in 1990, 1992, and 2006. Holguin is currently serving as an Executive Board member for Smile for a Life Time and an Advisory board member for CSUF-Mihaylo College of Business and Economics. He is also a Member of the Anaheim Union High School District Facility Improvement Task Force and Safety Committee.

In order to help bring a voice to Anaheim residents and businesses, as well as congruence to the Anaheim community; in 2011 Holguin created and launched the renowned website http://www.anaheimconnected.com "Where Anaheim Comes Together" .

This year Thomas celebrates 25 years of doing business and providing services in Anaheim. A former proprietor of a children's preschool and currently the owner/operator of a successful contracting and construction company, Holguin has performed ongoing services for numerous local and national corporations such as Orange County Social Services, Orange County Health Care Agency, and Orange County Waste and Recycling, OC Community Resources.

Holguin, married to Patricia Arroyo and grandfather to six grandchildren, soon to be seven come this November. He considers his greatest accomplishment to be the successful rearing of three daughters, who reflect his values and desire for higher education. All three of his daughters are graduates of local universities and two are currently working on their Master's degrees.

Holguin is a graduate of the CSBA Master in Governance Program. His undergraduate studies include the areas of Business Administration, Early Childhood Development, and Criminal Justice.
