Convert up to 1,000 acre-feet per year of demand from potable to recycled waterProject will reduce demands by approximately 15% that will no longer be subject to drought restrictions or rationing due to import system outages. The $35 million project is adding jobs to the local economy. Funding sources allow implementation without impacting existing rate payers and include: State Grant, Rebates from Metropolitan Water District, Portion of Tier III (inefficient) and Tier IV (excessive) rate revenue, Revenue from recycle water sales. Additional benefits of the project incldue reduction of ocean discharges by as much as 35% and improved water quality to the Laguna Woods Golf Course. Project is on schedule to begin construction in 2013 with completion before the end of 2014 |
