As second oldest of six children, Sergio learned responsibility, leadership and the importance of education at a young age. Today he applies these values to every part of our community. As a volunteer tutor at Orange County Juvenile Hall, Sergio helped teach reading and math skills to some of Orange County's most disadvantaged youth. This experience taught Sergio firsthand the power that education has to create opportunity and hope, while changing lives for the better. As a Westminster School Board Trustee since 2004, Sergio Contreras has expanded after school programs to keep kids off the streets and provided extended-day learning opportunities to help students with English and math. He has also increased access to computers and music & arts programs district-wide. By establishing an all-day Kindergarten system, Contreras solidified Westminster School District as the first in Orange County to provide day-long Kindergarten at all district school sites. He is also responsible for extending learning time for First through Third Grade classrooms and modernizing schools to create safe and secure learning environments for community youth. Sergio also serves the community by volunteering his time and energy to various committees and charitable organizations. Sergio is a Commissioner to the Chief of Police in Westminster, Commissioner to the Orange County District Attorney's Advisory Commission and member of Westminster's Advisory Committee for the Disabled Member. Sergio is also past president of KinderCaminata Inc., former member of Westminster's Community Advisory Group, former Westminster Cultural Arts Commissioner and former Wesstminster Planning Commissioner. Sergio Contreras was raised, and educated in Westminster. He attended Webber Elementary, Warner Middle School and graduated from Westminster High School. With his family's support and encouragement, Sergio earned his Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Master's degree in Public Policy & Administration from California State University, Long Beach.
