A native of the area, I completed K-12 in our wonderful Newport Mesa Unified School District, graduated with high honors from the California Maritime Academy and have continued my education at UC Irvine and Vanguard University. I have management and leadership certificates from the University of California, Irvine. I am a:
For those not aware, UCI maintains its own roads, and storm drains, and its own water, sewer, and extensive heating, and cooling systems. It generates over 80% of its own electricity. UCI is equivalent to a city of over 35,000 people. Over the last 15 years, I have been heavily involved in the development of over $1.5 billion of new facilities on the campus and medical center including some of most complicated research laboratories around. My colleagues and I help save more than $5,000,000, annually, in utilities costs for the campus. We develop and implement renovation and alteration projects in support of the research effort in every area of the campus, from the campus nuclear reactor to advanced laser systems and cutting edge biological research. My colleagues and I are actively involved in national conferences on energy efficiency and development of what we call Smart Labs. Before UCI, I worked as a Marine Engineer on large ships. I hold an active unlimited operating license for shore side steam power plants and retired unlimited licenses for ship board plants. I have both public and private sector experience. While not as experienced in the management of water agencies as our General Manager, I am more than professionally qualified to manage at Mesa Consolidated. In addition to service at Mesa Consolidated Water District, I have served on the Board Directors of the Youth Employment Service of the Harbor Area (YES) for more than 10 years. There, I have served as CFO for many years and just finished a term as President. My involvement has ensured long-term planning and helped burn the mortgage. I also serve as a mentor in at Newport Harbor High School (my Alma mater), and as the president of my condo association. |
