Full Biography for John Alpay
Candidate for |
For the past two years, John has served as San Clemente's representative to the Capistrano Unified School District. In that short time, he has restored stability in Capistrano Unified by working to keep politics at the Board of Trustees level and away from the classroom. Despite deep budget cuts from Sacramento, John has worked hard to maintain a quality educational environment for our children. This has been done in part by cutting unnecessary expense and waste from the budget. In his first year in office alone, Capistrano Unified was able to reduce legal expenses by 66%. In addition, John has brought new and innovative educational programs to Capistrano Unified. This year will mark the launch of Orange County's first and only Mandarin Immersion Program (students are bilingual in English and Mandarin by the 5th grade), a project that John championed. He has also worked to increase school choice by creating the California Preparatory Academy, Southern California's premier online high school and advocating for additional charter schools such as Oxford Preparatory Academy. John currently works as the Director of Legal Affairs for Oakley, Inc. and was recently recognized as the 2011 Outstanding General Counsel of the Year by the Orange County Business Journal. He holds degrees from UCLA School of Law, UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management and the University of California, Berkeley. John is married to Rochelle Alpay and together they have three children: Autumn (Second Grade), Saige (Kindergarten) and Logan (Pre-school). |
