For nearly six years, I have served as a commissioner on the Santa Ana Planning Commission and for the last two years have served as its Chairperson. During my service on the Planning Commission, I helped guide approval of zoning changes that will pave the way for new homes and businesses in the city, particularly that area between the city's train station and downtown. I also serve on the Board of Directors of the Santa Ana College Foundation where I have helped sustain the College's Veterans Resource Center that provides academic counseling and guidance to military veteran students who want to access their Veterans Assistance educational benefits. And one of my most important jobs in this city is raising my family with my wife. It is this job that underscores for me the importance of this election for Santa Ana. At a time when the economy is still performing below expectations, the city needs leaders that have the budgetary, analytical and quantitative skills to guide it through austere budgets. I have this required skill set. As Vice President and Senior Corporate Counsel at a large company, I manage a multi-million dollar legal budget and formulate recommendations about best business practices for the company to reduce exposure to lawsuits. As a private attorney at a prominent entertainment law firm, I handled high profile lawsuits such as the Recording Industry Association of America's copyright infringement lawsuit against the Napster file-sharing website. Prior to law school, I served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Chairman of the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors for three years where I worked with regional, state and federal leaders to extend the BART subway from Fremont to downtown San Jose. That project is now being built. I not only bring these skills but also a sense of urgency to my campaign for Santa Ana City Council. I was the first Ward 3 candidate to file a statement of intent to run on June 28, 2012. I have amassed support by reaching out to friends and colleagues statewide to tell them about the richness of Santa Ana and how my candidacy is a reflection of many of the aspirations our residents have for their children. My struggles have been the struggles of so many in Santa Ana. But everyday I work hard to achieve success in my professional career and to support and protect my family and I bring that same sense of purpose to this campaign. |
