Recreational Opportunities for Youth, Seniors and FamiliesBy David "Dave" PachecoCandidate for Member, City Council; City of Seaside | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
Youth, family and senior involvement create a stronger Seaside community.Recreation programs have been dramatically cut and currently there is only one full time staff person. I understand and am fully aware that youth and family programs were lost. This makes little sense in that they either minimally impacted the budget or were self supporting. Further, liability increases with minimal staff supervision and quality of service decreases. In the 2012-2013 two additional staff money was allocated as of Sept 23, no action has been taken to hire staff to provide and maintain services to youth, families, and seniors. I would personally donate my city stipend to the City Tree Lighting Ceremony. This event can cost a minimum amount of dollars but creates a sense of community and family that according to a recent City Survey has been lost. I would raise funds for a fifth week of Sunday Blues. This event brings revenue to the City of Seaside, creates positive public relations and provides a sense of community for the residents of the Monterey Peninsula. We are all for youth, seniors and family programs. I am the candidate that will actively do something pro active to find the solution to creating a greater sense of community. |
