Candidate Statement

By Phil Burfoot

Candidate for Council Member; City of Point Arena

This information is provided by the candidate
My name is Phil Burfoot. I have been a "Townie" for three years, but have called Point Arena home for the past twenty-seven. Since before my girls were born, I have tried to give back to this wonderful community and support their opportunities: three years on the PALS board, helping convert the library, volunteering for the school's music and drama programs, local campaigns and the like. The past few years I have not served much, due to a shattering divorce and the instability that caused my life, but I'm back to my new self, and willing and able to serve this vibrant community I love, in whatever capacity.

In terms of City government, I would stress that I come with no agenda; no single issue that has me up in arms; no baggage. My desire is simply to serve the community by rigorously understanding the issues we face, taking input from every source possible, and apply that understanding to Council, ensuring that Point Arena is able to thrive and grow on its OWN terms. Two things make this a reality; City government MUST be transparent to Citizens, and Citizens MUST be active in bringing forth their needs and observations to its government. The election process is merely a part of that ongoing relationship.

I'd like to commend all those who have come forward to serve the City, and to say that I'm thrilled to be able to be one of them. If voters decide to give me the opportunity, I will serve with diligence and integrity. If not, and the seats go to any of the other fine candidates, I realize that I can serve just as effectively from the OTHER side of the table; by being an active Citizen; paying attention, voicing concern, and sharing my experience.
