RENATO LIRA Candidate for San Fernando City Council Member Renato Lira has been a member of the community and involved in neighborhood issues long before being a candidate for San Fernando City Council member. He made a decision to run for city council based on his ability to continue to help residents and businesses in San Fernando. After encouragement from the community, other elected officials, family and friends, he was elected for the upcoming elections in November 2012. Renato was born in the year 1979 and grow up in the city of San Fernando, California. He lives with his father, Angel Lira, mother, Rosa Lira, older brother, Felix Lira and younger sister, Marisol Lira. He attended Gridley Elementary School, graduated from San Fernando Jr. High School in the year 1995, and in 1998 he graduated from Sylmar High School. At the age of 17 years old, he became involved in his community and started volunteering during the summer at San Fernando Cesar Chavez Park, as an activist working with senior citizens. He began to research other community programs for ideas, and created several activities for senior citizens to participate at San Fernando Cesar Chavez Park. After graduating from high school, he continued volunteering with the community, the park and residents, and became involved in neighborhood issues working with the city council to make a difference in the community. His involvement included safety for children, safety control for schools, neighborhood watch, and street maintenance. During the 1994 Northridge earthquake, he volunteered with the American Red Cross. He participate in a group of several volunteers that walked around the community assisting residents by distributing meals, first aid kits, water, blankets, flashlights, and personal hygienic products. From 1999 to 2001, he enrolled in a two-year program at The Arts Institute for culinary, where he received his AA degree. He then attended the University of Nevada in Reno, Nevada, where he received his bachelor degree in Fine Arts in 2005-2007, and received his master's degree in Political Science in the year 2007-2011. Renato was also an active voice of the neighborhood community, providing ideas, arts commission and also a parade board member for the Arts of Cesar Chavez Memorial for 2 years, which is located in the heart of San Fernando; its grand opening was held on October 24, 2004. Since 2005, he has been an active intern with The Dream Acts in Washington, D.C. He has been working with congress members as a liaison, developing school educational programs and services, as well as, presenting bills to the president. Renato continues to serve as a voice of the parents and students, from elementary school to high school. He assists in developing programs for educational funds and presenting them to the school board. In his spare time, he is an active participant in neighborhood charity events for schools, community church festivals and city celebrations. He also actively works to organize community town house meetings for the San Fernando Transit Transportation development. Renato promises to bring back San Fernando to its glory days and will work hard to maintain a safe city.To be fiscally responsible and provide budgetary oversight, improve existing services and bring back economic development to the city agenda. As well as, changing legislation to help the residents and businesses become stable and stay stable. His goal is to implement the first San Fernando council board.I have a Vision for the City of San Fernando`s hard working families, that`s why I`ll work together with the city council, mayor and city staff to balance our budget, to ensure services are met, seniors are represented and I will work hard to ensure the San Fernando Pool becomes accessible to all residents. When asked about his accomplishments, Renato is first to admit that he has never accomplished anything on his own. It has always taken others, working together, to bring about successful changes. "We may be a little city but we have a big heart for community it's time for us to listen to the City of San Fernando.
