Debra's views on AUSD Teachers

The Antioch Unified School District must remember the backbone of the District....the teachers. No school district will ever be successful unless it remembers that the teachers are on the frontlines in the classroom everyday managing students in many situations that demand courage, strength, and remembering on a daily basis why they became teachers.

Our teachers deserve to be valued, have their concerns addressed and solved and they should be recognized for managing over sized classrooms and appreciated for not giving up when their concerns were not addressed. The teachers and principals deserve to have a Board that will meet their needs, find progressive solutions to solving problems and a Board that understands what is required to move forward with improving API scores and maintaining those scores with consistency.

I am running for School Board because my perspectives and experiences come from supporting teachers every day in the classroom for the past 10 years. I have worked closely with principals to help them meet their site goals and worked closely with teachers to help them meet the demands of their classroom schedules. I have been honored to work with students from preschool age through high school and each time I've worked with students the experience was the same: Most students want to do well and most students want to have a positive relationship with their teachers.

I am ready to serve and feel that the time for change is now. We must do everything we can to improve graduation rates and shift the tide of apathy that plagues so many of our students. I believe and I want you to believe that we can move toward excellence when we expect excellence!!
