Smart Voter Official Statement for Tomi Diane Vandebrooke

Candidate for
Board Member; Contra Costa Community College District; Ward 2

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

My name is: Tomi Diane Van de Brooke

My age is: 50

My occupation is: Communications

Education and Qualifications:

I am dedicated to ensuring Diablo Valley, Contra Costa and Los Medanos Colleges continue to provide quality transfer education, career training and basic education remediation in a fiscally responsible manner.

Over the past seven years, I successfully advocated for more transparent and prudent budget practices and performance measures to ensure program effectiveness. We have built the general fund reserves from less than 5% to as high as 23% minimizing the impacts of the current state-funding crisis on our colleges. We have worked collaboratively with employees to increase productivity and resolve pension issues.

My greatest contributions as a board member have been to ask tough questions, stand by my convictions despite pressure, and diligently pursue a more fiscally prudent, student-centered and performance-based approach to managing the District.

I bring a 25-year career in business and have served on the boards of several economic development organizations and actively promoted local job growth. I was born and raised in Contra Costa, attended public schools and have a B.A. in Political Science/Public Administration.

I believe in public service and would be honored to have your vote so I may continue my efforts to deliver high quality education to all Contra Costa County residents. Thank you.
