My Vision for San Pablo Ten Years from nowBy Cecilia "Cecy" ValdezCandidate for Council Member; City of San Pablo | |
This information is provided by the candidate |
I see a city that is healthy, inclusive, economically sound and with a 90% high school graduation rate.My Vision for San Pablo Ten Years From Now. I see State Budget problems a thing of the past, as it affects our city. I see San Pablo transitioned from a bedroom community into a major industrial center. I see San Pablo's unemployment rate declining to a 5% level. I see our culturally diverse residents have shared what makes them unique and how that uniqueness enriches our city economically and educationally Public Safety: I see our city being the safest in the Bay Area as our collaboration among our schools, our city, our police department and community organizations has taken root and we have formed a partnership that benefits every one of us. Immigrant Integration I see comprehensive Immigration Reform having been passed and Secure Communities program no longer necessary as it affects our San Pablo residents and West County residents. By 2014 over half of Hispanics in California will be teenagers. By 2040, Hispanics in California will be the majority population. All immigrants, including those from Asia and African countries must be a strong part of our community. Education: I see a graduation rate at 90% by investing in pre-school and primary school education. Studies show that if a student has not grasped English and math by third grade, they will start to slide in their future studies. We must plan for the future. Expand tutoring programs, mentoring programs and more community participation and inclusion. Economic Development: I see San Pablo's unemployment rate declining to a 5% level through Economic Development Center having created a powerful strategic plan with the assistance of our business owners, corporations and government institutions such as Small Business Administration and with partnerships with Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, San Pablo Merchants Association. We will need you all more than ever. |
