As a parent of a Jr. High Student attending Hillview Jr. High, I'll bring a fresh perspective and viewpoint to the Pittsburg Unified School District Board. I've served on the Foothill Elementary School Site Council for five years, serving as chairperson for two years, and also served as District Advisory Committee representative for two years. I've reorganized the Parent Staff Association at Foothill Elementary in which I served as president for four years. As President of the Parents club at Foothill, we were able to raise funds and provide each teacher with money to spend for their classroom. I've worked with the districts coordinator of English Language Programs to helped organize and start a Spanish Club at Hillview Jr. High, serving the Dual Immersion students. I've served on the AdHoc Board Goal Committee to set school goals. I also currently serve on the Dual Immersion Oversite committee. Working on the various committees at the school, and district levels has provided me a good understanding of the school environment and budget process. I've attended PUSD board meetings on a consistent basis for the last four years, and feel that I am ready and comfortable in the board setting, to provide input and serve the community. From these experiences, I feel prepared in making fair and objective decisions for our schools. I am Endorsed by the Pittsburg Teachers Union (also known as Pittsburg Education Association) and the Contra Costa County Democratic Central Committee. |
