Official Statement for Thomas Philip "Phil" Simmons
Candidate for |

|
My name is: Phil Simmons My age is: 60 My occupation is: Retired Education and Qualifications: My wife and I moved to Hercules in 2003 and quickly became involved in the community. I am running for city council because I care deeply about our city's future. Hercules has had 30 years of residential growth but not enough commercial and retail business development. This has left the city with an inadequate financial foundation that cannot support public services the community wants and needs. I will work to ensure that the property assets of Hercules be used to support business growth. With new business development, sales tax growth will bring the revenue needed to support our city. As a leader in the Bayfront Task Force and the Waterfront Initiative, I worked to guide the city to begin its development plans which includes balanced growth. As your councilman, I will pursue opportunities to ensure that these community plans are achieved. During my appointment on the Hercules Ad Hoc Legal Committee, I gained a deep appreciation for the need for open and transparent government. As a councilman I will push for a review of the city's ethics policy and promote a community endorsed "Sunshine Ordinance" to ensure that all citizens are informed and their voices are heard and respected. My career as a professional sales executive has provided me an understanding of how to negotiate winning strategies. With these skills I will find ways to listen to the community, guide the city council, and lead city hall to work together for the common interest of all Herculeans. |
