Smart Voter Official Statement for Mary Helen Rocha

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Antioch

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

My name is: Mary Helen Rocha

My age is:

My occupation is: Community Liaison

Education and Qualifications:

I've served the community of Antioch for 30+ years, as your Mayor, Council Member, School Board Member and an advocate for families and children.

Today, crime is the number one issue impacting families in Antioch; we all need to feel safe in our community.

We need to expand preventative programs that support our police department, continue with programs like Coffee with the Cops, 1st Saturday Neighborhood Clean-up, Police Athletic Program (PAL) and work with the school district on youth diversion programs. Instead of lawsuits, we should be resolving issues in the community; building relationships, bringing neighborhoods together and building a community, not just a city.

Recently, the council has brought back code enforcement on a limited basis, however, there needs to be more funding allocated to this important effort. Absentee landlords and bank-owned properties need to be cleaned up. Review current ordinances and explore new ones to fix this problem.

There needs to be a focus on regional and water based transportation efforts, which would improve economic viability. Economic development on the along the riverfront needs to be a priority.

Our roads need work. Traffic officers need to be back on the street. The city needs to fund the infrastructure that is so important to the quality of life for all of the citizens of Antioch.

As your Council Member I will work hard on these issues. I will always be available to those I serve. I can be reached at 207-7220 (cell) or email maryrochacares@yahoo.com.
