Official Statement for Traci Reilly

My name is: Traci Reilly My age is: 45 My occupation is: Community Volunteer Education and Qualifications: Lafayette has been our home for nearly two decades and I care deeply about its future. My husband, Kevin, and I have three school-aged sons: Matthew 16, Justin 14, and Ryan 11. I've been a dedicated public servant and volunteer in the community for many years and I'm running for office because I feel I can apply that experience to the larger challenges facing Lafayette. During these economic times, the city is continually strained to do more with less. As residents, we face many important challenges, such as the impact of growth, congestion in the downtown, public safety, and deteriorating roads. As Lafayette continues to grow, it's important to preserve the charm and character that make this such a special place to live. I believe we need to maintain greater local control of that growth and to stand up to outside agencies that are a driving force behind some of the development. I've worked to find solutions to fix failed roads and it will continue to be a priority. I believe in fiscal restraint and finding ways for the city to work within its means. As a consistent voice on public safety, I was appointed to the Crime Prevention Commission in 2006 and have served as its Chair since 2008. Additionally, I worked tirelessly in the creation and passage of an ordinance that served to curb door-to-door solicitation. Our good schools help maintain our strong property values, but this is largely possible because of strong community involvement. Like so many, I have served on various school committees and boards for over a decade, from Lafayette Elementary to Acalanes High School. As a dedicated volunteer and community leader, I will bring experience, commitment and enthusiasm to the Council. Please vote for me this November.
