My family and I moved to Moraga in 1985. I was raised in Massachusetts and graduated with a civil engineering degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964. I was a commissioned officer with the US Navy Civil Engineer Corps, serving two tours with the Seabees in Vietnam during 1965-68, and as an officer in charge of construction in Thailand until 1970. Upon discharge from active military duty, I earned graduate degrees in engineering from Stanford University, receiving my doctorate in 1973. For six years I was research and development director for an engineering firm in San Francisco, then set out on a year-long sailing adventure with my wife, Sharon. On returning in 1980, I joined Chevron where for 20 years I was a project manager on engineering and construction projects in various overseas operations. I retired from Chevron in 1999.

I was elected to the Moraga Town Council in November 2004 after serving three two-year terms on the Moraga Planning Commission, two years as chair. I served as mayor in 2007 and 2012. I was the original proponent of the Town's new Traffic Safety Advisory Committee (TSAC) and was chair during the inaugural year. I also was the original proponent of the Town's Audit and Finance Committee, and have served on that committee since its inception in 2007.

Since 2008, I have focused on thew Town's deteriorating infrastructure, namely, public streets and storm drainage. I was a key member of the Revenue Enhancement Committee in 2009. I subsequently chaired the RECON Committee, which the Town Council chartered to bring forth recommendations for revenue measures to repair and maintain our streets.

Since 2005 I have served as a commissioner on Contra Costa Transit Authority (CCTA). I continue to serve as the Town's representative on Southwest Area Transportation (SWAT) Committee, Lamorinda Program Management Committee (LPMC), and Lamorinda Fee and Finance Agency (LFFA). I am also the Town's representative on the Lamorinda School Bus Program. This year, I began serving as an alternate of the East Bay Regional Communications System Authority (EBRCS) board.

Since 1997 I was an active member of USA Swimming where I was a nationally certified swimming official. I served on the Board of Directors for Pacific Swimming and for 12 years was responsible for the swim safety program in Northern California and Nevada. I continue to serve Pacific Swimming as a member of the Investment Committee, and I participate in the Pacific Swimming Pool Improvement Grant Program. I also continue to serve Campolindo High School as referee/starter for their home swim meets.

I am a member of Kiwanis Club of Moraga Valley, where I have been club secretary since 2006.
