Education and Qualifications:

Thank you for allowing me to serve four years. I have listened to the residents of our district and done my best to respond to their concerns. I hope you will allow me four more years. We have been fiscally responsible and paid off the state debt, freeing more funds for the classroom. However, the State financial crisis has prevented increasing staff salaries and reducing class size, especially in high schools. We have increased school safety, with less crime on our campuses. Our academies--health, technology, environmental studies, law and justice, multimedia, hospitality, creative and performing arts--are providing more educational opportunities to our students and keeping them in school. Our Middle College High School and our Ivy League Connection are other successes. Attendance is improving, 95%, and getting better. I support district elections, where our five cities each elect a board member. This would need County Office of Education approval. I support the parcel tax and the bond measure. The parcel tax will extend the present tax to fund smaller classes, counselors, sports, and librarians. The bond measure will let us complete our building program. All students deserve an equal opportunity for success.
