Smart Voter Official Statement for Sherry McCoy

Candidate for
Council Member; City of Hercules

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

My name is: Sherry McCoy

My age is: 56

My occupation is: Small Business Owner

Education and Qualifications:

I am concerned about the short-sighted decisions, lack of transparency and limited community involvement in recent actions by the City. With the financial challenges the city faces, we need to ensure that smart, thoughtful decisions are made instead of quick, reactionary decisions that will leave the city with long-term budgetary concerns and a dramatically changed community. My experience on the Planning Commission, involvement in the community and business background, is the experience and demonstrated commitment needed to bring these changes to the City Council.

I served on the Planning Commission for 5 years (2007-2012) and was the Chairperson for the past 3 years. I also serve as President of the Board of Directors, Foxboro Village Homeowner's Association.

I have been active in our community for over 20 years: working with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts; various activities my children participated in; and as a school volunteer.

My husband, Tom, and I live in Foxboro. We have two grown children, Rebecca and Michael. My education includes a BS in Chemistry and a MBA.

With the challenges the city faces, Hercules needs experienced, committed leaders who fully evaluate options to make decisions that balance the short-term and long-term opportunities and impacts. We need to balance the immediate challenges with the goal of long-term financial stability, public safety and a vibrant community. I have the background and dedication that our city needs.

I would be honored to receive your vote and serve you on the Hercules City Council.
