Political Philosophy for Debra Mason
Candidate for |

|
My philosophy has always been if give back to your community then you will be richer for it. I have spent most of my adult life working to improve the quality of life for the families in my community. I was the first to facilitate parenting classes in East County, when I tried to find a parent class in my area there were none. I was told no one wanted to come out to East County to do them so I said I would, I got the training and did it for many years. I have also collaborated with agencies to bring other services to the community including a Family Service Center, a health clinic at Riverview Middle School, after school programs and an organic garden. When I see a need, I try to put the right people together to make it happen. I have formed some wonderful relationships from these endeavors that have made my life richer. One example is a partnership with the Contra Costa and Solano County Food Bank to start the Farm2Kid program, that delivers fresh produce to low income schools once a week for children to take home. This started as a pilot at the five schools I coordinated after school programs at and has grown to over 70 sites throughout the two counties. I was named the Food Bank Volunteer of the Year for this work but more importantly I am now more aware of the amazing work that the Food Bank does and try to help them whenever I can, which in turn has enriched my life. |
