Smart Voter Official Statement for Todd Alan Groves

Candidate for
Board Member; West Contra Costa Unified School District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

My name is: Todd Groves

My age is: 48

My occupation is: Public School Volunteer

Education and Qualifications:

I believe great public schools create opportunity and a safe, respectful community. As a 15 year parent volunteer, I work to build student success. By bringing teachers, families and community together around shared goals, I achieve results.

To improve student writing, I started a program that brought hundreds of trained volunteers to middle and high schools.

I organized parents and teachers to advocate for the Middle School Math Initiative. Students will be better prepared to succeed in algebra and beyond.

I fought hard to eliminate a district fee that kept people from volunteering. As a result, 1,200 new volunteers registered to help our schools.

I will bring this collaborative problem-solving approach to the school board. I will work to: facilitate communication among families, community members, teachers and other staff that is respectful, timely and improves our schools. Empower schools to innovate and better serve their students. Promote clear, consistent high expectations for learning and behavior. Move beyond a one-size-fits-all curriculum. Provide the best math instruction available. Prioritize strong middle schools. Use taxpayers' money wisely. With the right leadership, these goals are within our reach.
