Jean is a former Commercial Insurance Broker and Education Reporter for the Lamorinda Weekly and the Lamorinda Patch. She earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of South Carolina and an Associate in Risk Management designation from the Insurance Institute of America.

Since moving to Lafayette in 2007, Jean has been an active community member serving in many capacities. Jean was elected to serve a two-year term on the Springhill Site Council in 2008 and joined the Springhill Parent Faculty Club (PFC) Executive Board as Vice President Communications in 2009. She was elected PFC President during the 2010-11 year and served as Parliamentarian in 2011-12. Jean also served on the Lafayette Partners in Education board during the 2011-12 school year. In the Spring of 2011, Jean served as the Measure B Campaign Chair for Springhill Elementary. Most recently, Jean chaired the Springhill Track Committee and successfully funded and finalized the project which had been in process for nearly a decade. She has been a Girl Scout Leader since 2008 and currently serves on the Lafayette Community Foundation Board.

Jean co-founded Lafayette for Education, a grass-roots group that seeks sustainable funding for public schools. She has made great efforts to bring community stakeholders together and encourage them to work collaboratively toward adequately funding our schools. Jean organized many events and forums to educate and inform the community of the funding issues of California schools. She linked several organizations to provide a wide scope of information, including the non-partisan group California Forward, Lafayette for Education, Educate Our State the City of Lafayette and the Lafayette School District. Jean led the "Wake Up Lamorinda" rally in downtown Lafayette where many teachers, students and community leaders gathered to alert the public to the unsustainable funding of California public schools. Jean moderated Lafayette for Education's Town Hall on education finance challenges in California that included the following speakers: Dr. Fred Brill, Lafayette Superintendent; Crystal Brown, Educate Our State Founder; Craig Cheslog, Principal Advisor to the State Superintendent of Public Instruction; Mark DeSaulnier, California State Senator; Dr. John Nickerson, Acalanes High School District Superintendent; Nancy Skinner, California State Assemblymember and Phil Ting, Founder of Close the Loophole/Assessor Recorder of San Francisco.
