My name is: Anamarie Avila Farias My age is: 38 My occupation is: Senior Budget Manager Education and Qualifications: I am a third generation Martinez resident whose grandfather settled in Martinez in 1958. My husband (a local business owner) and I are proudly raising our two young children here. An Alhambra High graduate with a Master's Degree from USF, I was married at St. Catherine's where I also serve on the parish council. I have a deep love for our community, having served on the Planning Commission for 8 years. Martinez is a great city in which to live and raise a family. I am running for City Council to preserve Martinez's unique history, while also making important decisions for future generations. If elected, I will focus on: Neighborhood Safety - The Martinez Police Department does an excellent job keeping crime at bay. I am concerned about the homeless Downtown, as well as adequate service for our neighborhoods south of Highway 4. I will work with police and the community on solutions to these issues. Waterfront Marina - We have amazing resources in our waterfront and our rebuilt park system, which will likely define Martinez for years to come. We need a solid plan to pay for the marina that doesn't burden taxpayers. Sound Budgeting - While Martinez has a balanced budget with 15% in reserves, costs are increasing and incoming revenue is limited. I will use my experience managing million-dollar budgets to make certain Martinez remains on solid financial footing. Economic Vitality - It's our small businesses that make Martinez special. I served on Martinez's Economic Vitality Task Force to investigate ways to promote small business growth in our community. As a third generation Martinez resident, I am committed to preserving our history, while ensuring a safe and prosperous future. Please call me at (925) 639-8850 to share your thoughts or visit http://www.anamarieformartinez.com. I would be honored to serve you. |
