Robert Purvis, Butte County Board of Education 1996-2012 President, Board of Education.

Education: BA, UC Santa Barbara; MA, CSU San Diego; Ed.D. USC Los Angeles. Experience: Teacher, Principal, Superintendent Volunteer: Local Non-profit organizations

I know and understand the role and function of County Offices in the State of California, which is unique compared to school districts. As an intermediate unit between the State and local school districts, it monitors and assists them as they prepare their annual budget. Also it acts as the appeal agency for a charter school disapproved by a local district. (BCOE provided an additional ten years for one charter which wasn't approved by a district).

So many programs and services are provided by BCOE that it requires time and experience to learn about them, such as Special, Migrant, and Indian Education, ROP, Juvenile Hall, Charter Schools, Technology, and Mini-Corps

During my time on the Butte County Board we have approved transfers of territory from one district to another and transfers of students in order to assist parents and improve educational opportunities.

Local school districts and BCOE face significant problems in the future. Elect someone who has the knowledge and skill to provide strong leadership.

I have enjoyed 16 years on the County Board, and look forward to future challenges. Thanks, Chico!
s/ Robert W. Purvis
