Smart Voter Official Statement for Erik C Lyon

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Chico Unified School District

This is a copy of information submitted to elections officials by the candidate

Candidate: Erik C. Lyon
Office: Governing Board Member, Chico Unified School District
Age: 38 Occupation: Marriage and Family Therapist

As a father of one, a step father of two, and intentions of having another child, I have a vested interest in the success of our schools here in Chico as one is already attending a school in the CUSD system, and the rest will follow as they enter school. I have been frustrated by some of the decisions of the past, and feel that sound, common sense policies have sometimes taken the back seat to politics. The decision to ban bake sales sticks out as an example.

I'm a Marriage and Family Therapist and worked within the schools for over 6 years, both in Oroville and in Chico, prior to moving into my current role as supervisor for clinicians working in the schools. My experience gives me insight into the school system that is unique. I am an active board member for the ARC of Butte County with over a year of experience in that role. I will work towards fiscal responsibility, early identification of at-risk youth, increased student achievement, success, and safety. I will strive for what is in the best interest of the students, teachers, and community. I ask, humbly, for your support.
